Who are we

Verbum Dei Catholic Missionary Community is an Institute of Consecrated Life, founded in 1963 in Majorca, Spain by Fr. Jaime Bonet. Verbum Dei, which means "Word of God" in Latin, is an international family of people consecrated to God and united in one and the same spirituality and mission.

Verbum Dei is composed of consecrated women, missionary priests and brothers and associated missionary families.

"Go, then, to all peoples everywhere and make them my disciples."

(Matthew 28:19)

Verbum Dei reaches out to all people: single, married, old and young, students, people of different occupations and status. Just like the first Christian communities, we center our mission on the Word of God. Our mission of evangelization is a consequence of our contemplative life in which we preach what we contemplate.

We, through our prayer, witness of life and the ministry of the Word, strive to be clear signs of the Kingdom of God present in our world today.  Our community in Cebu was welcomed by Cardinal Vidal in 1991.

"As for us, we shall give ourselves to prayer and the ministry of the Word."

(Acts 6:4)

Prayer

The source of our apostolic-missionary life comes from contemplative prayer with the Word of God. It is in this intimate dialogue with the Word, in prayer, that our calling and mission to preach the Gospel is rooted. (Const. Verbum Dei 15)

Ministry of the Word

Following the footsteps of Jesus, we too announce the Kingdom of God with all dedication and urgency.

Through preaching the Word of God, we introduce the people to a personal dialogue with God and teach them how to listen to Him through His Word.

"We transmit, not only what we say, but rather what we deeply pray and live."

Witness of Life

Fully aware the the world of today "...is calling for evangelizers who speak to it of a God they should know and be familiar with, as if they could see the invisible." (E.N. 76, Paul VI)

Our aim is that our preaching may always be preceded and accompanied by a witness of life that makes credible and confirms the faith we preach. Our first testimony must begin by presenting the existence of a personal God, made visible in our lives, who attracts and already fulfills our existence in this world.
